Best sales month ever for Kia Motors America

Kia Motors America announced it’s best sales month ever for the second consecutive month with record May sales of 31,047 units, an increase of nine percent over the same period last year, and year-to-date sales of 129,327 units.

“With gas prices continuing to rise, record sales of the fuel-efficient Spectra and Optima are proof that consumers are recognizing Kia’s value now more than ever,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG). “Achieving the best month ever for two months in a row is the result of enhancement efforts to Kia’s brand image and the Kia dealer network’s total endeavors in a difficult market environment to sell more vehicles.”

May’s record sales were led by Spectra and Optima, which both had their best months ever with 9,407 and 8,197 units sold respectively, increases of 10.5 and 120.8 percent over same period last year.

Kia Rio also continued with strong sales in its best month of the year at 4,474 units, a 28.6 percent increase over the same period last year.

  1. It’s funny how this news isn’t really news. I’ve worked at my dealership for almost 4 years (4 years this August) and I always see signs the have in the showroom about record sales, for certain months and the years. They seem to sell more than the previous year, and few, if any company is doing that anymore. Chrysler, Ford and GM (the Big 3 for the USA) announce plant closings and losses (rather than profits) while Kia is spanking the competition. I know it’s got to do with Kia still being a pup (only in the USA for 15 years, and the majority of the USA for probably less than 10 years), but it’s still great to hear about how a South Korean auto manufacturer, on the brink of bankruptcy 9-10 years ago is still breaking records for sales and more sales than the previous year, etc. Congratulations to Kia!

  2. Unbelievable. I have seen amazing amounts of Optimas lately. Kias are taking over Manistee!!! Manistee would be the best place to have Kiafest.

  3. im with you jason. i hope that kia’s future products like the soul and the new spectra (TD) will benefit kia greatly cos they’ll be really fuel efficient as well… cant wait

  4. Manistee it is! Someone arrange for all of us hardcores free airfare to Manistee, MI, and I’ll be there like white on rice! KiaFest ole’!!!!

  5. LOL, first we need to get the fuel efficiency of Picanto on a jet. Wow. 129,000 in the first 5 months. Last year we sold only 150,000 all year!! We could even sell 300,000 if this trend continues!!

  6. Sportages are poping up all over Los Angeles, and I was one of the first to get one, a 2005 EX. This is a great vehicle. I now see lots of Rondos, Spectras, and after a slow start, more new Optimas. The word is getting out, and I tell everyone to go out and get a Kia…any Kia.

  7. Here in UAE, when the sportage was introduced in 2005, Kia’s sales increased 164%.
