All-new Kia Forte Koup named the “Best in (New York Auto) Show”

The 2010 Kia Forte Koup has not even gone on sale and yet the vehicle has already won it’s first prestigious accolade. The attractively stylized Forte Koup, which made it’s official US premiere at the auto show event in New York has been named as a Best in Show vehicle by the editors of a reputable US automotive website MSN Autos.

The all-new Kia Forte Koup has been recognized for its sleek styling and extensive offerings for a good value. In addition, Kia’s first ever two-door coupe has also been noted for its competitive power and fuel efficiency.

“As the New York Auto Show offers a number of concept and production introductions, we are pleased that MSN Autos recognized Forte Koup as a ‘Best in Show’ for its bold styling and immense value,” said Michael Sprague, VP of Marketing at Kia Motors America.

Based on the same platform as the four-door Forte sedan, the Forte Koup comes available in two trim levels (EX and SX), and features a muscular yet sophisticated design. Powering the Forte Koup are a choice of two four cylinder engines, a 2.0L with 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque (EX models), or a 2.4L delivering 173 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque (SX models).

Both four-cylinder units deliver at least 31 MPG on highway, with estimated fuel economy of 25/34 (city/highway) for the 2.0-L when mated with either the five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. The more powerful 2.4-liter offers an economical 22/32 mpg with the six-speed manual and 23/31 when paired with the five-speed automatic.

The 2010 Kia Forte Koup is expected to go on sale in North America by the end of this summer, while it’s four-door variant should be available at Kia dealers as early as in June. It’s pricing has yet to be released.

“The all-new 2010 Forte Koup, combined with the recently launched Soul urban passenger vehicle and soon-to-be launched Forte sedan, really drives home our current strategy to create a full lineup of value-laden vehicles with a distinct and attractive Kia design.” added Michael Sprague. 1. Beautiful car. Needs Bigger engine to really be an image booster. maybe the GDI engine showed in the first one.

  2. Talks of the turbo rumor are still going around. Maybe they are keeping it under wraps until launch? That would be an incredible surprise.

  3. @Colby….I’ve been told by Kia that indeed they are considering putting the 2.0T engine from the Genesis Coupe in the Koup but I wasn’t told when we could expect it but hopefullly it’s soon!

  4. I took a pic of the Civic SI and placed it next to the Koup. The only thing that resembles the same design is that the headlamp/grill is horizontal. The civic is much skinnier and the lights are a lot smaller. The Koup has a wider light and thicker grill/headlamp design. Other than that the vehicles do not have any design element that are the same, side profile different, rear different, even the front bumper and fender flare design is different.

  5. Those dork Kia haters don’t have an idea for design to begin with, why do you think they buy Hon-Duh Civics? The 1998-2001 Kia Sephia’s blew away the same era Hon-Duh Civic’s and Toyota Corolla’s, too, and the contest wasn’t even close. My 1999 Kia Sephia cost me a whopping $7,995 brand new! Kia was offering a $2,000 manufacturer’s rebate, and my Sephia came with no radio and no A/C, and had a 5-speed manual tranny. I was living in western Washington at the time, a person can get away with not having A/C on the western side of Washington state. Beautiful new Coupe/Koup from Kia! The back looks as appealing as the front. I’d choose the 2.4L. motor, Kia is stating pretty good mileage outta the larger motor.

  6. I love the 2.4 engine. Mom wants a Forte as soon as it comes out. She says dhe probably won’t want a Forte if the SX doesn’t have auto temp control or a navigation system. She says it is bulls#!t that they can make the car she wants and won’t sell it to her. If it has no auto temp control option, that is the deal breaker.

  7. Guess Mom’s not getting a Forte then. I have not seen auto temp control and doubt they will put in one in. The Optima SX has Nav, Auto Temp and Paddle Shift. Thats a sweet looking car..

  8. Well done Kia another stunning car!
Only one question, will we be getting the Forte and Forte Koup in England?
