Kia has released the new generation Optima 4-door sedan at the New York Auto Show and we were one of the first to show you the official pictures of the fully redesigned midsize sedan.

The vehicle has been scheduled to go on sale in the USA in the fourth quarter of 2015, branded as a 2016 model year.

Hundreeds of news articles, reviews and videos about the current 2016 Optima model are available on the world wide web, but there’s hardly any word published on the 2017 Optima model.

Inspite of that, we have found some interesting facts you need to know when in the market for the 2017 Kia Optima.

2017 Kia Optima release date

Kia Optima LEDs rearThe 2017 Kia Optima is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2016 and will not receive any major changes and improvements.

As mentioned above, the 4th-generation Optima has just been fully revamped, so it needs no major changes or improvements for the 2017 model year.

The hot-selling midsize sedan has received major improvements in all key areas, including the design, comfort and powertrain technology.

However, that doesn’t mean Kia will keep all the things the same for the upcoming model year. In fact, the automaker may introduce minor upgrades to the existing trim levels and packages for 2017.

List of possible changes:

  • trim levels may get upgraded and new features could be offered
  • the 2017 Optima color range by adding one or two new paint shades
  • Optima plug-in hybrid version will be launched (confirmed!)
  • Optima wagon will be launched in Europe (US launch not confirmed yet)

We will keep this page updated, so stay tuned for more news about the 2017 Kia Optima changes, dealership arrival date and other importan facts.

  1. I love Kia and the Optima I leased my 2nd Optima EX 2015 and love it but the changes they made to the LX and EX is a little upsetting taking away more power, Fog Lights which is really not that bad but the duel exhurst that is so crazy and just 185 horse in the LX and EX?? what is going on? I want another Kia around 2019 so I hope they will add these that time. I do love Kia.

  2. I agree. I own a 2011 Optima SXT and am delighted with its’ 274 horsepower. On a long trip and in the ECO mode, I can get a honest 36 MPG on regular gas. The newer Optimas (2016) are a lot better due to structural, interior, and technological upgrades, but I don’t understand why KIA decided to decrease the turbo engine output from 274 to 245 horsepower. I, sincerly, hope KIA has something up its’ corporate sleve to deliver or increase the horsepower many of it’s customers want.

  3. I had a 2014 Kia Optima EX Premium Package. I soooo fell in love with it. I was more of an SUV person at yhe time till Blade (name of the car) I was truely in love. After the 2015 & 2016 came out, they took away what drew my attention to their car. Not happy with some of the changes (controls for air & stereo, some of the material change on steering wheel & gear shifter, front end design veered away from the racey look, and designsted seat colors for specific exterior colors options limited..black seats in the desert..I dont think so) for the past 2 years. Unfortunately, Blade is no more due to a rear end accident and I am awaiting for the 2017 to come out since Kia is bringing back the 192 hp. The gas milage is unbelievable. Batteries that Kia installs could use improvement. Overall, Love the car. Hope the 2017 will be close to the 2014 style and not have a ton of cheap chrome. If I want that, I would go Chevy. Keep it up Kia..I want to keep my business with you.

  4. We currently own a 2013 Optima EX and LOVE it. I do not like the changes that have been made in the last couple of years. Namely – the loss of fog lights, the loss of dual exhaust and the loss of horsepower from 200 down to 185. The 200 hp 2013 is very peppy and gets excellent gas mileage. Why do you have to fix something that is not broke? I have been waiting for the 2017’s to come out with no luck so far. Bought the 2013 in September 2012 and can’t figure why the 2017’s are not out yet. Sure hope some of these things come back.

  5. Love my 2013 Kia Optima turbo. It’s got great style. I get compliments al the time on its looks but want Evan more kick ass H.P.

  6. How much longer will I have to wait for the 2017 Kia Optima SXL turbo to be in the dealership. No one at the dealerships knows. There was not one at the Auto Show to view here in Baltimore at the Convention Center.
    Kindest Regards

    Still Waiting
