2014 Forte Koup SX To Go On Sale In The USA This Fall
Under the hood the car boasts a 1.6L gasoline direct-injected (GDI) turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting out 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.
Just like the 5-door, the 2014 Forte Koup comes in a pair of different trim levels (EX, SX), as well as a pair of engine and transmission choices. The EX comes with a 2.0L GDI four-cylinder engine, while the SX has a very sporty 1.6L turbo engine.
6-speed automatic is standard on the EX, whereas the SX comes with a choice of either a 6 speed manual or a 6-speed manual transmission, which has the very nice touch of steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Forte Koup SX Driving Dynamic
The 2014 Kia Forte Koup SX is undoubtedly the most powerful Forte Koup to date, thanks to its 1.6-liter GDI turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
That allows power to be transferred to the front wheels via your choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The GDI engine delivers an impressive 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750-4,500 rpm. Efficiency and performance are improved thanks to the addition of double overhead cams with dual continuously variable valve timing.
Forte Koup EX 2,0L
The Forte Koup EX comes standard with a 2.0-liter GDI powerplant producing 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm.
Tires & Wheels
The performance of the Kia Forte Koup is also aided by the addition of a sport-tuned suspension with a McPherson strut setup in front and a torsion beam rear design.
The standard tires found on the 2014 Kia Koup are 205/55R-16, while the SX trim gets a little sportier by adding 225/40R-18 tires.
Standard, Optional Features
As is the case with all the other Forte family members, the Koup comes with a laundry list of technology and safety features.
Standard features on the EX include 16-inch alloy wheels, UVO eServices with Rear Camera Display, Bluetooth technology, SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons, FlexSteer, tilt and telescoping steering column, power windows, and LED positioning headlights with fog lights.
The Forte Koup SX takes the list of standard features a little further, with 18-inch alloy wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, and LED tail lights.
Forte Koup SX also offers an aggressive front fascia with larger bumper and grille openings, black gloss grille inserts, larger front brakes, alloy sport pedals, front and rear seats with carbon fiber-style accents.
Carbon-fiber looking trim pieces has also been added to the lower front fascia.
The designers at Kia’s Irvine, California design studio worked hard to give the Forte Koup a sporty yet aggressive stance. This is achieved by a swooping roofline and large 18-inch alloy wheels.
The car also has broad shoulders, a raked windshield, and swept headlights that dig deep into the front fenders.
The addition of LED positioning lights adds a premium feel to the overall design, with twin chrome exhaust pipes definitely more on the sporty side of things.
Kia Forte Koup Sales
The all-new 2014 Kia Forte Koup is expected to come out during the fourth quarter of 2013, with pricing expected to be announced closer to that time.
