2013 Kia Soul Hamster Commercial video

The 2013 Kia Soul commercial is back!

Kia Motors introduced a trio of hip-hop hamsters in their advertising campaign for the Soul a few years ago and they quickly became a viral video sensation.

The hamsters are set to make a return this weekend in a new campaign that brings their 21st century dance sensibilities to 18th century opera.

Once again advertising the 2013 Kia Soul, the hamsters get their dance grooves on to “In My Mind” (Axwell remix) as the wig wearing patrons watch them tear up the stage.

The 2013 Kia Soul commercial is a mixture of modern music, high-energy dance moves, a laser light show and an epic stage dive that gets the 18th century audience all riled up.

The ad, entitles “Bringing Down The House,” will make its debut on over 18,000 movie screens during National CineMedia’s FirstLookpre-show program on August 31.

It will then move onto the small screen during the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6th, as well as on all Kia platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, and the official Kia website.

The hip-hop hamsters have been pop culture trendsetters from the get-go, seeming to have their paws on the pulse of new music trends which perfectly represented the Soul as “A New Way to Roll.”

Previous campaigns featuring the hamsters have included such music hits as “The Choice Is Yours” by Black Sheep and “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, with those ads really helping to further Kia’s consumer awareness and establishing them as the fastest growing automaker in the US in the past five years.

As mentioned earlier, the hamsters are an internet sensation, with their 2011 ad, “Share Some Soul” garnering over 20 million YouTube views, making it the 3rd most-watched automotive ad in the history of the video site.

The hamsters also scored big on Madison Avenue, landing the inaugural “Rookie of the Year” award on the Walk of Fame, not to mention winning “Automotive Ad of the Year” twice in a row, courtesy of Nielsen Automotive.

The latest add featuring the hamsters was created by David&Goliath, who just happen to be Kia’s go to advertising agency.

The goal with the new spot was to make a 60 second piece that blended the old world with the new. This was inspired by the fact that much of today’s electronic music is actually inspired by the classical sounds of centuries past.

The “Bringing Down The House” piece opens with a 1799 opera house as the setting. Ballet dancers and opera singers move to the rhythm of a rather strange looking conductor, who it turns out is actually one of the hamsters in disguise.

As the music takes on an electronic beat, a futuristic Kia Soul emerges from the stage to the strains of “In My Mind” remixed by Axwell.

It isn’t long before the infectious grooves and the dance moves of the hamsters in brightly colored “Hamstar” duds gets the powdered wig crowd on their feet.

As the opera house gets taken over by the beat, the hamsters make their dramatic exit behind the wheel of the 2013 Kia Soul and out into hyperspace. The cheering audience is given a wink and a wave as the trio ride the interstellar wind.

David Angelo, founder and chief creative officer, David&Goliath said that they thought that the use of music was a great way to connect the Soul to potential customers.

After being given the them line of “A New Way To Roll” Angelo figured that it was the perfect way to incorporate new trends in music so that the soundtrack would stay as cool and fresh as the car itself.

With “Bringing Down The House” Angelo believes that the conventional approach of remix has been turned on its head to blend the new world of electronic music with the old of classical to create something that is both musically and visually unlike anything seen or heard before.
