2012 Kia Optima SX Limited preview

2012 Kia Optima SX limited debuts at Chicago Auto Show…

The Kia Optima sedan has always been a vehicle that made consumers take a second look, and it did it again at the Chicago Auto Show. It was there that Kia Motors America unveiled production plans for the Optima SX Limited.

Due to begin production at the West Point, Georgia manufacturing plant in late February, the 2012 Optima Limited will feature the fuel efficiency and class-leading horsepower that has always been the staple of the Optima SX, but will also be given a number of design and amenity enhancements that should help distance it even further from other vehicles in its class.

You don’t have to have been in attendance at the Chicago Auto Show to be in on those plans, as the Optima Limited was introduced to the masses in the extremely popular “Drive the Dream” Super Bowl commercial.

Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA spoke of how the 2012 Kia Optima Limited would feature a number of premium style upgrades that can’t be found in any of the Optima’s major competitors, and how the addition of a touch of opulence would complement that package of style, fuel economy, and technology, making the Limited appealing to a wider audience.

It would have been easy for Kia to rest on the accolades that the Optima SX received, including being named “Editors’ Most Wanted” mid-sized sedan by Edmunds’ Inside Line.

Instead they will release the Limited in March, in some rather stunning sounding exterior colors: Ebony Black, Snow White Pearl and Titanium Metallic.

The Optima Limited will also be sporting features that are normally saved for luxury models, including chrome-accented rear spoiler, LED daytime running lights, and a wood interior trim. Highlighting the cool exterior paintwork will be red front-brake calipers which will be visible through the 18-inch chrome wheels.

Kia owners always expect great fuel efficiency, and that is what the Limited will provide courtesy of a 2.0L turbo GDI engine that delivers a class-leading 274 horsepower, and 22/34 mpg (city/highway).

The interior of the new Kia Optima Limited also gets a nice upgrade, with Nappa leather seats, door panels, center console armrest. The aforementioned wood accents will appear on the steering wheel, as well as on the shift knob and interior door trim. To cap off the sumptuous interior design, a black tricot fabric will be used for the headliner and sun visor.

The Optima Limited takes everything that makes the SX great and sprinkles it with an extra touch of elegance. The car maintains the aggressive stance and style that was made famous by chief design officer Peter Schreyer, bit gives the discerning car buyer a little more to play with.

Those come in the form of some very cool features which will be standard on the Limited, which will include a sport tuned suspension, a lower bumper design in both the front and rear, HID headlamps, driver’s seat memory, a navigation system with back-up camera, and SiriusXM radio to name but a few. What drivers of the 2012 Kia Optima Limited will receive is the same great Optima performance, but with an added touch of elegance.

  1. Call me crazy, but I swear this was at NAIAS (the Detroit auto show). I didn’t give it much attention, but I remember seeing an Optima with “Limited” in the rear license plate. If Marty would let me borrow the DeLorean I would go back to the show and give it a better lookin’ over and see if it was the Limited or just a teaser SX without the Limited trim upgrades (LEDs in the front fog lights, red front brake calipers, etc.).
