2011 Kia Sportage SL spy shots

First pictures of the 2011 Kia Sportage, codenamed SL, undergoing durability testing. Next generation Sportage scheduled to make official debut in February 2010.

Autospies have managed to catch the 2011 Kia Sportage while undergoing hot-weather testing on the US soil. Unlike our previous set of spy shots, these latest images reveal more details about the Sportage’s completely redesigned exterior.

While many details are still kept safe and very well hidden from our eyes, it’s clear the 2011 Kia Sportage will feature a sportier and much more exciting exterior design than the outgoing model. It also appears the new Sportage will bear a strong family resemblance to Kia’s new Sorento crossover and is going to adopt many styling elements from latest Kia concept cars.

Codenamed SL, the 2011 Sportage will be introduced with a wide range of four-cylinder engines including a host of technically updated gasoline engines as well as new 2.0L R-diesel engine with 184 horsepower. Mated to these engines will be a six-speed manual transmission or for the first time, a brand new six-speed automatic, co-developed between Hyundai and Kia.

The next-generation Kia Sportage has been scheduled to make its official home debut in February 2010. Following its Korean debut, the new Sportage is expected to arrive Stateside towards the middle of 2010, and will go on sale as a 2011 model.

The 2011 Sportage will compete in the compact crossover category and as such will go up against the 2010 Hyundai Tucson, Ford Kuga, VW Tiguan and other models in the segment.

  1. it’s look great . I want to see a real sports car with Rear wheel drive From KIA , like the new Hyundia Genesis , They are useing it for Racing and drift races , and they are doing Success .

  2. looks like a rondo crossed with a mitusbishi outlander

i’d imagine it’d sparky with a 2.0 litre turbo diesel (only 200cc down from the sorrento)

  3. From what I have heard, the US model will share powertrain options with the Forte, with the addition of a revised 200+ horsepower 2.7L Mu V6 standard on the SX model. By 2013 all Kias will have an SX option.

  4. I think Himi is right, it does appear to resemble a smaller Sorento. I really hope when its released it makes people think twice about jumping straight into a Rav4, CRV or X-Trail.

  5. i think the rear lamp will somehow looks like Nissan dualis or the Hyundai Tucson Concept car.

  6. It really does look like a mini Sorento – albeit with a much smoother (and prettier) roofline =D
    I know it’s gonna be h o t !
I hope my mum trades in her Sportage for the new one when it comes out =D

  7. IRVINE, Calif. — Kia Motors America on Wednesday said its June auto sales fell 5 percent as strong sales for the Sportage model were unable to offset a steep drop in demand for all other models.

Total vehicle sales for June slid to 26,845 from 28,292. The Sportage, the only model that sold more than last year, saw sales more than triple to 6,267. Sales for June also included three new models.

The Optima was a significant detractor, as its sales plunged 47 percent to 3,645.

  8. Forte isn’t a Crossover though.

It’s about time Kia brought an SX to all their lines. What about the Amanti and Sedona? I’ve seen the concept of the Rondo SX, and we already have the Optima, Spectra, Forte and Rio SX models. Perhaps they should go to: BX= base model; EX=equipped better; LX=luxury model; SX=sporty model? I know “BX” sounds goofy, but they could just not tag it, since the Forte LX isn’t tagged (no LX emblem on the trunk in the USA) and the base model Rio doesn’t have any model emblem (nor does the Soul, though the Soul’s trim level changes with the seat cloth).

I know I’m a broken record on these two points, but Please, PLEASE! KMA bring the diesel engines to the USA, and this side indicator (on the fender in these pictures, which as I’ve said is where I prefer it).

Also- is that the turn signal in the rear bumper?! If you look at the 1st and 4th pictures, it appears to have a slightly orange color to it. I know that place is often times the rear reflector, but on vehicles like the Nissan 350 (and 370)Z and Infiniti EX line, that’s where they put the turn signal. Interesting choice if they have gone that way.

Also, yeah on the new 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmissions!

    😀

  9. PS: I don’t like the rims. I’ve mentioned it before, I prefer the number of spokes to match the number of nuts/ studs. So for this vehicle, it should be 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. spokes to be circularly symmetrical. Yes I made that term up, but it just appears off when there are 5 spokes and 6 nuts (some of the Borrego and Sedona wheels) or 6 spokes and 5 nuts (some of the Rondo and Optima wheels) or 5 spokes and 4 nuts (Rio and Spectra wheels).

  10. LX is known for being a less equipped model not only with Kia, but Honda, too. The UN Rondo will not have an SX trim until it’s next facelift. Amanti will get all three trim levels, too. Borrego will see an SX model with the redesign, and Sedona might never see a facelift. Kia wants to shed the minivan baggage. Rio will indeed see another generation though! A 112 HP 1.4L engine for the LX, 122 HP 1.6L engine for the EX, and 152 HP 2.0L engine for the SX. New Rio will also receive 5 lug wheels, completely phasing out 4 lug patterns in the USA.

  11. Wow you sure know alot for not being an employee..I wonder who is leaking the information to you? unless you actually work for the company and your BS’ing us that your a 15 year old..

  12. well, no probs if they’re getting rid of the minivan.
    .
i dont prefer the indicator being on the bumper cause you can hardly see those lights there when you sit high. and the wheels need to be re-done too.

  13. in my dealership about 20% of our sales are the Sedona. I even own a 2008 LX. I hope they don’t loose the minivan because people are still having babies.
